Artist Statement

Lara Palmer’s work explores the architecture of perception, revealing how humans see, interpret, and inhabit the environments around them. Through reflections, water, light, and atmospheric phenomena, her Mirrors series transforms familiar landscapes into spaces that invite viewers to experience different ways of seeing, unlocking perceptions of seeing itself. Cave Paintings and Tree Paintings extend these explorations into living ecosystems, where intertidal life, epiphytes, and subtle natural patterns shape color, texture, and perceptual experience. Across all series, Palmer collaborates with nature, using its rhythms and phenomena to investigate how perception frames understanding, creating immersive, conceptually layered experiences that invite presence over performance and foster awareness of light, reflection, and the interconnection of the natural world.
